Drew Ascione

Currently Based in New York City, New York, USA

College in Boston, Massachusetts, USA

From Los Angeles, California, USA

Let me introduce myself. I currently work as a freelance Assignment Desk Assistant and Fill-In Assignment Editor at WCBS NY who is looking to continue my career in broadcast journalism full time.

Before moving to the city, I left  behind my title as Assignment Desk Editor and Digital Content Producer at News Channel 3-12 in Santa Barbara where I tailored daily news coverage, vetted news, wrote & monitored the KEYT website, and managed news crews, teams, and management.

I started out on the weekend and nightside beat as an Assignment Desk assistant where I performed my role, showed a willingness to do more, and be more proactive in the newsroom. I was promoted to the dayside News Channel 3-12 Assignment Desk Editor within three months of being hired and now manage a team of reporters, editors, and assignment desk staff to capture the daily news cycle.

As a mid-senior level leader, I learned to manage, assign stories, assist the Executive Producer and News Director, vet stories for the safety of staff, reach out to PIOs, and lead digital coverage on the website and social media channels. I overall provide sass, class, style, collaboration, and willingness to do more, know-all, and assist team members to produce a clean clear concise live show.

As an Emerson College graduate with a degree in Broadcast Journalism with a triple minor in political communication, radio, & gender studies I know the limitations and possibilities of the broadcast medium.

I come equipped with the skills of reporter in an assignment desk editor capable of pursuing any story while prioritizing the diversity of human experiences.

In the real world, I have written on inclusive community playgrounds, high-profile murder trials, and more on a tight turn around consistently beating local competitors

In college and any opportunity when able to I curated transgender & LGBTQIA entertainment content, highlighted inclusivity & accessibility in local stories, and have engaged with my community, told its stories, and documented its culture

I bring original unique pitches, a willingness to show up, and an unwavering adaptability to an ever-changing world. Most importantly I am confident in my ability to fulfill the duties of the role and more.

So, let me introduce myself, I am Drew Ascione.
